Biography of Dr. Nirmal Goswami

Dr. Nirmal Goswami is a Senior Scientist in the Materials Chemistry & Interfacial Engineering Department at CSIR-IMMT, India. His academic journey began with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Burdwan, followed by a Ph.D. at Jadavpur University (Institute: SNBNCBS) under the guidance of Prof. Samir Kumar Pal. After his doctoral studies, he broadened his research horizons through postdoctoral work at the National University of Singapore with Prof. Jianping Xie, where he explored aggregation-induced emission in thiol-protected nanoclusters. He later moved to the University of South Australia to investigate the biomedical potential of these fascinating materials.

At CSIR-IMMT, Dr. Goswami leads a research group dedicated to exploring the bio-inspired self-assembly of nanoclusters. His team takes inspiration from natural systems to design dynamic, functional nanomaterials with applications in catalysis, sensing, and biomedicine. A highlight of their work is the development of the first depletion-driven self-assembly strategy for metal nanoclusters, which opened new possibilities for creating stable, solvent-dispersible cluster assemblies with impressive catalytic activity.

Dr. Goswami’s contributions to nanomaterials science have been widely recognized. He has published extensively, with his research cited over 5,200 times, and has been honored with several awards, including the CSIR Young Scientist Award in Chemical Sciences (2022) and international recognition as an Emerging Investigator by Nanoscale (RSC). He has also held honorary appointments at the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia, reflecting his strong international collaborations.
